Quick answer: For clean DTF gang sheet files, use transparent PNGs at 300 DPI sized to the exact dimensions you want printed, match your document width to the sheet width (usually 22 to 24 inches), and leave at least a quarter inch of space between designs. Good files print sharp and cut cleanly. Low-resolution or JPG files print blurry with white boxes.

Why file setup matters
DTF prints exactly what you upload. If a file is low-resolution, the transfer comes out blurry. If it has a background, that background prints as a white box around your art. Getting the file right before you order saves you from paying for prints you cannot use.
Use transparent PNG files
Always export your designs as PNG with a transparent background. PNGs preserve transparency, so only your artwork prints. JPGs cannot hold transparency, so they add a solid box behind your design. Vector formats like AI, SVG, EPS, or PDF also work well because they scale without losing quality.
Set resolution to 300 DPI
Resolution is measured in DPI (dots per inch), and 300 DPI at the final print size is the standard for crisp DTF prints. The catch is that DPI only means something at a specific size. A file that is 300 DPI at 2 inches becomes blurry if you stretch it to 10 inches. Always check resolution at the size you actually plan to print.
Rule of thumb: design at full size from the start, or start larger and scale down, never scale a small file up.
Match your document width to the sheet
Gang sheets are printed on rolls that are usually 22 to 24 inches wide. Set your document width to match the sheet width your shop uses so nothing runs off the edge. Our gang sheet builder handles the canvas size for you, so you can focus on the designs.
Leave safe spacing between designs
Keep at least 0.25 inch of space between every design on the sheet. This spacing does two jobs:
- It keeps the adhesive powder even across each design.
- It gives you room to cut each transfer apart without clipping the artwork.
If designs touch or overlap, they are hard to separate and can press unevenly.
Quick file-prep checklist

Common file mistakes
| Mistake | Result | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| JPG upload | White box around art | Export transparent PNG |
| Low DPI | Blurry, pixelated print | 300 DPI at final size |
| Upscaled small image | Soft, fuzzy edges | Design at full size |
| Designs too close | Hard to cut, uneven powder | 0.25 inch spacing |
Let the builder do the checking
You do not need to be a designer to get this right. Our builder flags low-resolution files and enforces safe spacing before you order, so you catch problems before they cost you. Frequently Asked Questions
What DPI should DTF gang sheet files be? 300 DPI at the final printed size. Lower resolution prints blurry, and DPI only counts at a specific size, so design at full scale.
Do DTF files need to be PNG? Transparent PNG is best because it prints only your artwork with no background box. Vector files (AI, SVG, EPS, PDF) also work. Avoid JPG.
How much space between designs on a gang sheet? At least a quarter inch (0.25") so the adhesive powder stays even and you can cut each design apart cleanly.
Can I scale up a small image for a gang sheet? No. Scaling a small or low-resolution image up makes it blurry. Design at full size or start larger and scale down.
